The City of Lauderhill is committed to keeping children safe as they travel to and from school. The School Zone Camera Speed Enforcement System Program is designed to encourage safer driving, reduce speeding in school zones, and help protect students, families, school staff, and crossing guards.

Speed enforcement cameras operate during active school zone hours on school days. Vehicles traveling more than 10 miles per hour over the posted speed limit may receive a $100 Notice of Violation.

How the Program Works

School zone speed cameras are used to identify vehicles traveling more than 10 miles per hour over the speed limit during active enforcement periods.

Enforcement times vary by school schedule. Cameras are active on school days beginning 30 minutes before the school starts serving breakfast and continuing until 30 minutes after school release time. Enforcement also applies to the regular speed limit throughout the school day.

When a vehicle is captured traveling more than 10 miles per hour over the speed limit, a Notice of Violation may be mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle. The initial Notice of Violation does not impact the registered owner’s driving record. However, if the violation is not properly addressed, it may convert to a Uniform Traffic Citation.

What Information Is Captured?

The system captures information related to the violation, including:

• Video and images of the vehicle
• License plate information
• Vehicle speed
• Date and time
• Location of the violation

Information captured by the system is encrypted and transmitted to a secure central server. Original images and data are securely stored to help protect the integrity and chain of custody of the information.

What If I Was Not Driving?

The registered owner of the vehicle is responsible for the Notice of Violation. However, if the registered owner can confirm that the vehicle was in the care, custody, or control of another person at the time of the violation, the violation may be transferred to the driver.

To do so, the registered owner must complete an affidavit and provide the required information identifying who was driving at the time of the violation.

Who Reviews the Violations?

Each violation is reviewed and verified by a State of Florida Traffic Infraction Enforcement Officer employed by the City of Lauderhill. The officer determines whether a Notice of Violation should be issued.
