Salary:

  • Police Officer Salary: $55,388 - $87,637.00
  • Police Cadet Salary (while attending the Police Academy): $48,500

  • The Lauderhill Police Department works a 2 week rotating schedule comprised of 12 hour shifts. This schedule equals a total of 84 hours worked in a 2 week period. This schedule gives each officer 7 days off in a 14 day cycle which allows the officer to enjoy additional time with family/friends but also allows ALL officers (regardless of seniority) to enjoy a 3 day weekend every other week.

Here is an example of a typical 2 week work schedule for an officer with the Lauderhill Police Department:

Pay and benefits are subject to change based on the collective bargaining agreement with the city and the police union.

Minimum Qualifications:

Police Cadet - Non-Certified

  • Minimum age of 19 years.
  • United States Citizen at time of application (F.S.S. 943.13(2)).
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.  An evaluation of foreign high school diploma may be required.
  • Must not have been convicted of any felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement as an adult.  All candidates must have good moral character as determined by a background investigation (F.S.S. 943.13).
  • If ever arrested, candidates must submit an official court disposition with the application.  Official court dispositions can be obtained from the Clerk of the Court in the county in which the incident occurred.
  • MUST successfully pass the Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (CJBAT or FBAT), Basic Motor Skills Test and swimming test prior to submitting an application. BASIC MOTOR SKILLS TEST AND SWIMMING TEST MUST BE COMPLETED AT BROWARD COLLEGE INSTITUTE OF PUBLIC SAFETY TESTING CENTER, PLEASE CONTACT (954) 201-6790 OR (954) 201-6931 FOR MORE INFORMATION.

Police Officer - Certified

  • Candidates must be Law Enforcement Certified in the State of Florida at the time of application.

Application - The following are required with your completed employment application:    

  • Birth Certificate/Naturalization Papers or Current US Passport
  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate (Sealed Transcripts Required if Submitting GED)
  • College Degree(s), if applicable; College Transcripts (School Certified-Sealed only)
  • All Marriage Certificates issued by the State or County, not religious organization.
  • All Divorce Documents, original and final decrees
  • Adoption or Legal Name Change (if applicable)
  • DD-214 Member 4 form for each branch served
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Complete Driver's History (Obtained from the Courthouse Traffic Division)
  • Social Security Card
  • Current Auto Insurance Card
  • Florida CJSTC Basic Training Certificate or other State Certification and results from Officer Certification Examination (Certified Police Officers only)
  • Bankruptcy papers (copy of original petition and final decree)
  • Complete Income Tax Return for the last year IF self-employed
  • CJBAT or FBAT passing results (valid for (4) years) - not required if already certified
  • Swim Test passing results (valid indefinitely) - not required if already certified
  • BMST passing results (valid for six months) - required for both certified and non-certified

**10 Year Detailed Social Security Report (Form SSA-7050-F4) will be required
should the applicant meet the criteria for background investigation.**

Other Requirements:

  • If applicant served in the military they must have been Honorably discharged (copy of DD-214 must accompany the application)
  • Must possess good reading comprehension, writing, communication skills
  • Must be able to pass an extensive pre-employment screening and background investigation
  • Must pass a seven panel drug test

Post Application Testing: 

  • Oral Interview
  • Polygraph Examination
  • Psychological Examination
  • Medical Examination and Drug Screen
