Scheduled Liquefied Petroleum Gas Burn-Off at Former Lauderhill Gas Plant Site

Lauderhill, FL (June 21, 2026) — The City of Lauderhill would like to inform residents of a scheduled and controlled burn-off of residual liquefied petroleum (LP) gas at the former gas plant site located at 2001 NW 49th Avenue, Lauderhill, FL 33313.

On Monday, June 22, 2026, a contractor overseeing the demobilization of the gas plant will conduct a routine Phase One burn-off of remaining LP gas from a west-side30,000-gallon tank. This process is a standard safety procedure during facility decommissioning.

Residents may observe a 30- to 40-foot flame during the burn-off, which is expected to last for approximately 24 hours. The flame may be especially visible during overnight hours, and while it may appear significant, it is fully controlled and monitored.

The Lauderhill Fire Department and Lauderhill Police Department are fully aware of the operation and have coordinated with dispatch centers. The Fire Department will maintain a continuous fire watch throughout the duration of the burn to ensure safety.

As part of community outreach efforts:

• Nearby residents in adjacent single-family homes will receive hand-delivered notifications.
• The City will share updates across its official social media platforms to keep the community informed.

There is no cause for alarm, and no action is required from residents at this time.
