Amid Rising Concerns Over Healthcare Access and Economic Stability, Lauderhill Expo Connects Residents to Critical Services

Lauderhill, FL (March 3, 2026) — As communities nationwide continue grappling with the dual pressures of economic uncertainty and healthcare accessibility, Commissioner Melissa P. Dunn is leading a citywide initiative designed to address both challenges through coordinated community support.

On Saturday, March 14, 2026, the City of Lauderhill will host the Health, Housing & Jobs Expo at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center (LPAC), bringing together healthcare providers, housing specialists, and workforce development partners to deliver direct, on-site assistance to residents. 

Rather than serving as a traditional resource fair, the expo is structured as a targeted community intervention recognizing the interconnected relationship between health outcomes, housing stability, and economic mobility.

Attendees will have access to a wide range of on-site services, including:

• Health screenings and wellness resources
• Housing assistance and support programs
• Mortgage and homeownership education
• Workforce development and employment opportunities

In addition to service offerings, the expo will feature fireside-style panel conversations exploring the intersection of health and housing, highlighting how stable living conditions directly impact physical health, chronic illness prevention, and overall quality of life.

Research shows that housing instability and financial stress are significant social determinants of health. In 2023, an estimated 41.8 million U.S. households—or 32.8% of all households—were cost-burdened, meaning they spent at least 30% of their total income on housing. Among renter households, over 21 million (approximately 49.7%) spent more than 30% of their income on housing.

This burden is associated with poorer physical health outcomes, reduced access to preventive care, and higher risks of chronic conditions such as hypertension and cardiovascular disease, according to the CDC.

“Across the country, families are facing the compounded effects of rising living costs, health disparities, and employment challenges,” said Commissioner Melissa P. Dunn. “This expo is about connecting residents to practical, immediate solutions that support stability, dignity, and long-term wellbeing.”

The event is free and open to the public.
