Lauderhill Hosts Sold Out Concert in Celebrating Jamaica’s 63 Years of Independence

City of Lauderhill celebrates Jamaica’s independence by hosting today's highly anticipated concert!

Lauderhill, FL (August 3, 2025) — In celebrating Jamaican independence in the City of Lauderhill several popular international artists performed tonight to a sold out crowd at the Solid as a Rock Concert held at Lauderhill Performing Arts Center. From call-and-response to singing the chorus of familiar songs back to back, hyped concert goers were up on their feet exhibiting cultural pride and overflowing with excitement.

In a city of 75,000 residents representing a spectrum of cultural diversity, people far and wide embraced the City of Lauderhill tonight as it showcased such artists as headliner Sizzla Kalonji along with music icons Lady G, Admiral Tibet, Etana, Hal Anthony, and "Festival Icon" Roy Rayon, all backed by the powerhouse Code Red Band.

During a brief intermission, Lauderhill Mayor Denise Grant and Commissioner John T. Hodgson awarded a proclamation to Melbourne Junior James of Magnet Force 14 Audio for 30 years of service in the areas of sound and audio production. 

This is the first year the City of Lauderhill is presenting the annual concert in recognition of Jamaica’s independence. Jamaica first celebrated its liberation on August 6, 1962, as it was born out of a rich history of resilience and vision. From Paul Bogle’s courageous Morant Bay Rebellion to Marcus Garvey’s political awakening and the formation of Jamaica’s first modern political movements, self-governance was ultimately achieved. In response, the British flag was lowered, the Jamaican flag was raised, and the motto “Out of Many, One People” officially captured the spirit of a new nation. This year, as Jamaica marks its 63rd Independence, Jamaicans throughout Lauderhill and across the world will gather to honor the country’s legacy and celebrate the vibrant culture that continues to inspire generations far and wide.

The Solid as a Rock concert is scheduled to continue until midnight tonight.
