Lauderhill, FL - March 12, 2024 - March is dedicated nationally to commemorate Women's History Month. The Broward County Commission on the Status of Women is honoring 14 leaders who contribute to the social, economic, and political history of our community. This year's theme is “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

Melissa P. Dunn is a Commissioner for the City of Lauderhill, a small business owner, and a community activist. She collaborates with residents, business owners, and community partners to co-create a healthier, more prosperous, and safer Lauderhill for all. Commissioner Dunn has founded and co-founded several initiatives like Lauderhill Health and Prosperity Partnership, Lauderhill Peace365, and others. She serves on several boards including the Florida Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials, the Solid Waste Authority of Broward County, and the Tourist Development Council (TDC) for Broward County.

Commissioner Dunn has also been appointed to the National League of Cities' Women in Municipal Government (WIMG) an important step towards advancing the concerns and issues of women in public office. Her two-year term in the advisory role will allow her to significantly impact the nation.

My commitment to empowering women and young women has been unwavering and began well before I was elected. With so much still to accomplish, I will continue to press forward with women’s initiatives.”
