City of Lauderhill Vice Mayor Melissa P. Dunn Announces Plans for the 2nd Annual Gun Violence Awareness Week.

Lauderhill, FL – May 26, 2022 – 6:00 PM – Vice Mayor Melissa P. Dunn and the City of Lauderhill is presenting its Second Annual Gun Violence Awareness Week to residents of all ages. June 2-5 the City will host various events to discuss the effects gun violence has had on our City, as well as the entire Country.

“While we are planning for this Second Annual Gun Violence Awareness Week, we are again faced with another horrific school shooting. It is time to take action and protect our children from senseless gun violence. Now more than ever, this discussion has to be had, and change has to follow. Join us” explains Gun Awareness Week Organizer Vice Mayor Dunn.

On Thursday, June 2, 2022 at 6 pm, there will be an Ask the Expert Forum focusing on Gun Violence. The Forum will be in person at City Hall (5581 West Oakland Park Blvd.) and online as well. Please register at www.lauderhill-fl.gov/gunviolence. Moderator Rodney Baltimore from HOT 105, will lead discussions with Daniel Bowen of the Centers for Disease Control, Susan Kennedy of Bullets4Life, Tavia Harvey a gun violence victim, and Harold Pryor the State Attorney.

On Friday, June 3, 2022 at 6 pm, the Lauderhill Police and Fire Department will hold assemblies with our Youth Sports participants from the Broncos and Lions Cheerleading/Football programs to discuss Gun Safety. The age appropriate presentation will give our youth an opportunity to learn more about gun precautions and safeguards. Mental health professionals will be on site to help navigate this conversation.

On Saturday, June 4, 2022 the Lauderhill Parks, Police, and Fire Departments will host their Annual Family Safety Day at John Mullin Park (2000 NW 55 Ave)  from 12 pm – 4 pm. The event will include free food, dj music, games and activities, raffles and prizes, hot car safety demo,  K9  demo, CPR classes, water safety demo, gun safety and free gun lock giveaways. The pool is open for swimming and the event is free and open to the public. (Proper swim attire is required to swim.)

Finally, on Sunday, June 5, 2022 we ask that the entire City join us in Praying for Peace and unity in our communities. We need God’s divine intervention and protection to not only keep our community safe, but healthy and prosperous.
