“How do you become a police officer?”
“What do you do every day?”
“Is it like crime TV shows and movies?”
Anywhere I go, whether around the block or around the world, I am asked many questions about working in law enforcement. I can tell you this, cases aren’t usually closed in a forty-two-minute time span between commercials! People want to know what “really” happens out on the streets, and maybe you have had those same questions, too!
If you really want to know what happens inside of your Lauderhill Police Department, I invite you to register to attend our Citizen’s Police Academy!
The Academy offers you an opportunity to learn about the internal operations of your Lauderhill Police Department (LPD).
Each week, a different discipline or area of LPD is presented, such as patrol operations and specialized units, like Traffic, K-9, Criminal Investigations Division, Internal Affairs, and many more! Citizens are also offered the opportunity to participate in the department’s Ride-Along program, which allows you to complete a tour of duty out on the streets as you ride along with one of our police officers. This ride-along is usually an eye-opening experience for many students as they get to see the real day-to-day activities of the police.
It is a robust program scheduled from May 26th through July 28th, 2022, held once a week (Thursdays) from 6-9 PM, at the Lauderhill Police Department.
Participation in the Academy requires a substantial commitment, and any participant who misses more than two classes will not be able to graduate. You will receive classroom instruction by personnel from throughout the agency through lectures, demonstrations, tours, and hands-on activities. The course is designed to teach citizens about the philosophy, policies, and guiding principles and ethical conduct of police services in our community.
The overall objective of the Academy is to provide citizens with sound and accurate information to make informed decisions regarding topics that involve law enforcement. Participants will be able to share their experiences and insight with family, friends, neighbors, and other members of their social circles to further improve and strengthen community-police relations.
For further information and to register, please call 954-497-4700 or email Detective Shawn Keechle, and I hope to see you there!
Yours in service…
