Hello Lauderhill Family!

The end of school means the start of the summer! We made a lot of adjustments in the past year, but now that COVID restrictions are eased and vaccinations have increased even for children 12-15 years old, we will soon find ourselves interacting in person once again. As a refresher, I want to remind all of you of safety tips that may have gone by the wayside.

Summertime brings summer heat along with it! To avoid accidents, remember to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated while working or playing outside! Colas and carbonated drinks may quench your thirst, but they also DEHYDRATE! Though sports drinks replenish electrolytes lost from sweating, drinking water is the champion for hydration. To stay healthy, stay hydrated.

Did you know that cramps, headaches, and dizziness can be brought on by heat? Heat-related injuries can be prevented by taking frequent breaks, sitting under shade, and cooling down before resuming any strenuous activities. As South Floridians, we should learn what to look for and how to assist someone experiencing a heat related incident until medical professionals arrive.

I hope that you take the opportunity to review this and until next time, stay safe and if you see something, say something!

Yours in service,

Chief Constance Stanley
