About Lauderhill

Chief’s Message - April 16, 2021
April is here. Although the COVID-19 pandemic is an ongoing issue that we continue to address on a daily basis, we cannot forget that there are other problems that affect people every day, sometimes for their whole lives.
One such reality that April brings to the forefront is autism, for Autism Awareness Month. This is a disorder that is near and dear to my heart. I would like to share information about your Lauderhill Police Department (LPD) Cares Program and how LPD participates with people with autism.
Florida law enforcement officers receive annual training on how to appropriately interact with people with autism, but LPD takes it a step further. We have implemented the LPD Cares program, which is a part of our Autism Outreach Program, that allows our officers to better serve everyone in our community.
To improve our response, we keep a voluntary, confidential record of residents with autism so that officers have the data before arriving on scene. Officers are able to handle the reported situation properly and provide relevant assistance as needed.
This month, be sure to keep an eye out for our Autism Awareness Patrol Vehicle, driven by Officer Shaun Keechle, a Community Outreach Officer! The unique design brings attention to this issue and the challenges faced by all those touched by autism, including family and friends. The puzzle pattern on the vehicle reflects the diversity of people living with the condition. Feel free to reach out to Officer Keechle when you see him and say “hi”!
Please consider completing our form for residents with autism. The information is strictly reserved for LPD staff, kept confidential and made available only to our patrol officers. It greatly helps our officers prepare. Through LPD Cares, we can improve interactions for all parties involved.
