City of Lauderhill Commissioner S. “Ray” Martin Assists Teachers in Efforts to Attain COVID-19 Vaccination

Lauderhill, FL – February 5, 2021 – 10:00 AM – City of Lauderhill Commissioner S. “Ray” Martin is leading the charge for teachers to get a COVID-19 vaccine. As the COVID-19 Pandemic has left an indelible mark on all segments of our community, the Commissioner felt it was imperative to assist teachers as they have been mandated to return to the classroom.

Commissioner S. “Ray” Martin’s Resolution (21R-01-21) requested that the Governor’s Emergency Order (20-315) be amended to be consistent with vaccine allocation protocols from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The CDC allows for teachers to be vaccinated in earlier tiers of the plan. Commissioner Martin’s resolution not only requests for teachers to be vaccinated as the CDC prescribes, it also requests the State declare teachers as essential workers like a firefighter or police officer.

“Helping to protect and keep our teachers healthy, who selflessly serve our youth, remains a priority for me. I am grateful my colleagues recognized the importance of this initiative and supported me. Since the Resolution passed, it has been forwarded to every commissioner and elected official in Broward County, as well as our State and Federal representatives. I hope other elected officials join me in this fight and create a similar resolution in support of my effort. Together we may provoke change that ensures we take care of our community…especially our teachers,” explains Commissioner S. “Ray” Martin.

Resolution 21R-01-21 was passed unanimously on January 25, 2021 by Mayor Ken Thurston, Vice Mayor Denise D. Grant, Commissioner Melissa P. Dunn, Commissioner Lawrence “Jabbow” Martin, and of course its creator, Commissioner S. “Ray” Martin.
