The Lauderhill Police Department’s Traffic Unit is an interdisciplinary branch of the Police Department that enforces traffic laws and investigates traffic crashes. The Traffic Unit strives to make sure Lauderhill roadways are safe by attending community events to educate the public on roadway and occupant protection safety. It also conducts highly visible traffic enforcement operations within high traffic areas and school zones to deter traffic violations. Additionally, it investigates a wide variety of traffic crashes, including those involving minors, DUIs, serious bodily injuries, and fatalities.

The Traffic Unit seeks to build community relationships in order to increase awareness about traffic safety. Officers of the Traffic Unit educate parents on how to properly install a Child Car Seat through our Car Seat Education Program, and they teach children how to safely walk to school at our event, “Safety Town.” By hosting community events, we are able to bring attention to the dangers of the roadway, such as impaired driving and distracted driving, which could be fatal to multiple drivers and passengers on the street.

Lauderhill’s Traffic Unit is comprised of 3 police officers, 6 civilian Police Service Aides, and 1 Sergeant. Police officers are assigned a district within the City and become experts of the traffic concerns within it. The officers identify the issues within the district and develop a comprehensive plan to improve it by collaborating with city departments, state officials, and community leaders for solutions. The Police Service Aides assist the police officers by investigating accidents and directing traffic.
