The city proudly holds the title of the “cricket capital” of the United States, thanks to Central Broward Regional Park Stadium—the first U.S. cricket ground certified by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to host international matches. This landmark venue has become a hub for cricket in North America, drawing major international events and helping to grow the sport’s popularity across the region. The city is also popular for arts and recreation, featuring signature destinations like Lauderhill Performing Arts Center, Lauderhill Historical Museum, Lauderhill Golf Course and several scenic parks with picturesque trails. One of the cornerstones of the Lauderhill Police Department is its Community Relations Unit (CRU). The unit employs a comprehensive crime-fighting strategy which is built on facilitating and maintaining positive communication and collaboration between the Police Department, other City departments, and the residents of Lauderhill. You may recall some of their projects, including Coffee with a Cop, Halloween Safety Day, Shop with a Cop, and Secret Santa. 

The CRU is comprised of three full-time Police Officers, who are each responsible for a designated district in Lauderhill: Northwest, Central, and East. Officers are tasked with familiarizing themselves with the residents and their concerns by attending community meetings with neighborhood leaders, networking with clergy, interacting with youth, and using creative techniques to engage the community. The full-time officers are supported by three part-time Reserve Officers, two Civilian Community Liaisons, and one Sergeant.

The CRU concentrates on the needs of the community outside of the traditional law enforcement response. The CRU addresses issues that include:

  • Homeless Outreach
  • Veteran Outreach
  • HOA Meetings
  • Community social events

Beyond treating the symptoms, the CRU looks for long-term solutions and ways to involve the community in playing a role in the solution.
