On July 29, 2020 representatives from Lauderhill Police, Fire Rescue, H.E.A.R.T. and BSO joined together to surprise and celebrate the accomplishments of a college-bound Lauderhill resident. Miss Anjanae Hewitt, in spite of misfortunes and hardship, pursued her dream to get into college! Miss Anjanae Hewitt was also featured above as an Education Advisory Board scholarship recipient.
"Oh my goodness! I know all you guys!" Anjanae Hewitt shouted in shock and excitement when she walked into her surprise party at Nailed It-DIY Studio, Lauderhill. The event was a total surprise.
Anjanae Hewitt is no stranger to the programs and staff at the City of Lauderhill! She participated in the City of Lauderhill’s First Responders program at Lauderhill 6-12. The program teaches basic firefighting, CPR, and first aid, which laid the foundation for Hewitt’s aspiration to become a Nurse Practitioner. Assistant Fire Chief Levy recognized Hewitt as one the best students in his class.
The Broward County organization H.E.A.R.T. (Homeless Education Assistance Resource Team) was also present at the celebration for Hewitt, who had experienced some period of homelessness during her education. Now on her way to Nursing School in Tuskegee, Alabama, the organizations joined together offered Hewitt words of wisdom, but also gifts for the totally deserving recipient.
The organizers, including the owner of Lauderhill business Nailed It-DIY, sent Hewitt off to Tuskegee with more than $1,500 and lots of dorm room must-haves for Tuskegee University. All who attended agreed that, despite of the challenges Hewitt had to face, her positivity and perseverance is truly an inspiration for overcoming obstacles. We wish her nothing but success!
