About Lauderhill

Located in the heart of Broward County, the City of Lauderhill is home to nearly 75,000 residents and a growing number of bustling businesses that help drive the region’s economy. Known for its diverse cultural richness and welcoming community, this All-American City is less than 10 miles from South Florida’s world-famous beaches. The city proudly holds the title of the “cricket capital” of the United States, thanks to Central Broward Regional Park Stadium—the first U.S. cricket ground certified by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to host international matches. This landmark venue has become a hub for cricket in North America, drawing major international events and helping to grow the sport’s popularity across the region. The city is also popular for arts and recreation, featuring signature destinations like Lauderhill Performing Arts Center, Lauderhill Historical Museum, Lauderhill Golf Course and several scenic parks with picturesque trails. With a strong focus on people, progress and sustainability, Lauderhill continues to be a vibrant place for everyone under the sun.

in memoriam the city of Lauderhill sergeant corey Pendergrass 23 years of dedicated service November 15 1968 july 26 2020

As police officers, we understand and have accepted the inherent risk that comes with the profession of our choice. In that same vein, knowing that risk does not lessen the pain of losing one of our own. We suffered a great loss when Corey Pendergrass was taken from us on July 26th, 2020. Not only was Corey a great person, a community leader, a friend, and an officer; he was an incredible husband and father.

On July 30th, 2020, I announced that Corey Pendergrass was posthumously promoted by the City to the rank of Sergeant. We thank him for his 23 years of dedicated service to the law enforcement profession and the entire Lauderhill family.

Corey’s life and legacy will be honored by many in the upcoming weeks. However, due to these unprecedented times, the Pendergrass family has elected to honor Corey with private family services on August 7th and 8th.

The Lauderhill Police Department (LPD) will honor Corey’s life and legacy in the near future with a celebration of Life Ceremony. Information for the celebration will be forthcoming. We sincerely thank everyone for all your support and look forward to healing as a City, Department, Community, and Family.

The LPD Fraternal Order of Police set up a GoFundMe profile to fundraise for his six kids’ college funds and trusts.
