Highlights from the Lauderhill Police Department - April 30th, 2020
- On April 22nd, 2020, Special Projects Unit (SPU) detectives conducted surveillance on Jeff Obas where he was known to store an ice cream truck. With probable cause for his arrest, detectives watched him load the ice cream truck with food and a variety of other items, then followed him to various locations near Boyd Anderson High School.
Once Obas drove into the City of Lauderhill, a traffic stop was initiated. He pulled over, ran to the back of the ice cream truck, dumped items into the deep fryer, then returned to the driver’s seat. SPU immediately searched ice cream truck and recovered a wad of white substance from the deep fryer.
With the help of a K-9 officer and another partner, a thorough search of the ice cream truck revealed cocaine and over $1,700.00 in cash. Jeff Obas was arrested and charged with 6 offenses, including probation violations and possession with the intent to sell, manufacture, and deliver cocaine.

Back in February of 2018, officers responded to a report of a front door open at 4164 Inverrary Drive, where they found an unresponsive male. The victim had sustained gunshot wounds to his body and was pronounced deceased on the spot. Lauderhill’s Criminal Investigations Division discovered the victim had been out the previous night where he met females who were setting the him up to be robbed. While the females were inside the residence, two male suspects entered the residence to rob him. During the robbery, the victim was shot and killed by one of the male suspects. The five suspects fled the residence together. Detectives obtained arrest warrants for the suspects, three of which were arrested in June of 2018 in California and extradited back to Broward County. On February 21st, 2020 one of the suspects, Cristian Carmona, was sentenced to life in prison. Detectives are investigating the location of the last two suspects of this crime.
