Hello Lauderhill family!

As we continue to make our way through this global issue, we all must remain vigilant in guarding our health – not only our physical health, but our financial health too.

There are multitudes of scams where unscrupulous actors will attempt to exploit the fears of our families and neighbors. The most common scams are:

  1. Fake tests and cures: Individuals and businesses have been selling or marketing fake treatments for COVID-19. Because the scammers are simply re-labelling products intended for other purposes, these alleged remedies are potentially fatal.

     

  2. Illegitimate health organizations: Cyber criminals will pose as affiliates to the World Health Organization (WHO), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), doctors’ offices, and other health organizations. They will try to trick you in several ways, like inviting you to click a link, visit a website, open an “infected” attachment with malware, or share your sensitive information. Malicious activity has been disguised as fake notifications about your test results being ready, that your COVID-19 test shows you are positive for infection, or as a false news story.

     

  3. Fraudulent charities: There has been a dramatic increase in websites that seek donations for illegitimate or non-existent organizations. They will try to take advantage of one’s goodwill to steal your money and keep it for themselves.

I am amazed at the resiliency and tenacity of the human spirit. In my philosophy of maintaining a positive attitude, I look for the blessings that this crisis has brought us and have seen many acts of kindness, humility, and a coming-together of our communities to battle this pandemic.

Families, friends, and neighbors are uniting in new ways, and this has greatly brought out the best in people. 

Check in with your friends, families, and neighbors – they may need help. Social distancing does not mean emotional distancing! In these trying times now, more than ever, we must be our brother’s and our sister’s keeper.
