Chief's Message - February 20, 2020

My top priority as Chief of Police is, and always will be, our community. Our events and programs, such as Coffee with a Cop, National Night Out/Halloween Safety Day, Citizens Observer Patrol, Slow Roll and Ride with a Cop, Homeless Outreach, and the Rescue Our Kids Program, are only a few of many that show how much care and consideration we have for our treasured residents.

After examining our community outreach efforts, I assigned a Crime Prevention Officer to each of the three districts in the city, providing a direct conduit from the police department to the community to address those quality of life issues that affect us all. We then expanded our efforts and brought on civilian Community Liaisons to further reach out and engage the various and dynamic cultures that make up our wonderful city. Further review found that these efforts were effective, however in my estimation, not enough.

As such, I am proud to announce the formation of the Community Relations Unit under the supervision of Sergeant Kimberly Vincent. This unit is tasked to consolidate and tie in all the efforts these programs and units do, along with the gains we have made in the community, through short- and long-term projects. This unit will engage directly with our neighborhood homeowners’ associations, businesses, and religious communities. By using a multifaceted approach, we can continue to learn what is affecting us, thereby allowing your police department to help, guide, direct, and protect consistently and committedly.

As we say in police work, “be on the look-out” for Sergeant Vincent and her team of dedicated officers and civilian personnel out and about in your neighborhoods and communities as they strive to make a positive difference to all who live, work and visit our great city!
