Lauderhill honors Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's legacy with educational events

Under the direction of Vice Mayor Bates, the City of Lauderhill and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Task Force, organized various events for the 18th year to celebrate the iconic leader's birthday. Like in previous years, the focus for the Task Force is on education! 

Local elementary school-aged children began participating in the 2019 City of Lauderhill MLK Taskforce Civil Rights Spelling Bee this past weekend:

· Preliminary Round

Date: Saturday, January 19, 2019 I 11:00am

Location: Parkway Middle School – 3600 NW 5th Ct. Lauderhill, Fl 33311

Schools included were: Banyan, Broward Estates, Castle Hill, Challenger, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Endeavor Primary, Larkdale, Lauderhill Paul Turner, Lloyd Estates, Park Lakes, Phyl’s Academy, Royal Palm, Tamarac, Village, and Walker Elementary Schools.

Date: Wednesday, January 23, 2019 I 6:00pm

Location: Lauderhill City Hall – 5581 W. Oakland Park Blvd., Lauderhill, Fl 33313

Area Middle Schools to include Bair Middle, Plantation Middle, McNichol Middle STEM School, and Seminole Middle will be competing in the 12th Annual Hall & Rosenberg MLK Brain Bowl on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at 9:00 am. The Hall and Rosenberg Brain Bowl is a trivia-style competition which focuses on African American History, Civics, Social Studies, Lauderhill’s History, Math, Science, and Literature.  The Hall & Rosenberg MLK Brain Bowl will be hosted at BECON TV Studios (6600 Nova Drive, Davie, Florida 33317) on the set of “School Duel”.  The Finals will be taped live and will be rebroadcasted and available online for on-demand viewing.  For more information call 954-730-3080.
