The Lauderhill Police Department implemented the new License Plate Reader (LPR) technology as part of the General Obligation (GO) bond. The readers are a greatly enhanced resource to help the police solve crime and make the City of Lauderhill a secure, safe, and desirable place to live, work and visit.
An example of the LPR at work occurred when an officer was on patrol and was alerted by the new system about a stolen vehicle and provided the vehicle’s description. When the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle’s driver fled and was subsequently involved in a traffic crash. The suspect and his passenger were apprehended and taken into custody. The driver was not only charged with Grand Theft Auto, but was also charged with Possession of Cannabis, Trespassing, Fleeing & Eluding, and Resisting Arrest and the passenger for a violation of probation.
