CITY OF LAUDERHILL, FLORIDA NOTICE OF GENERAL ELECTION
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2008


Notice is hereby given that a General Election will be held in the City of Lauderhill, Florida, on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, for the purpose of electing, at large, three (3) City Commissioners, one each for Commission Seat #1, #2, and #3, for a four (4) year term.

Persons seeking election may qualify with the City Clerk from 12:00 noon, Tuesday, September 2, 2008, until 12:00 noon, Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at City Hall, 3800 Inverrary Boulevard, Suite 301, Lauderhill, Florida.

All qualified electors of the City of Lauderhill, whose names appear in the registration books of the Office of the Supervisor of Elections of Broward County, Florida, will be eligible to vote in said election. The registration books shall close on October 6, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. Absentee voting shall be permitted through the Broward County Office of the Supervisor of Elections.

The election shall be held in accordance with the Charter of the City of Lauderhill, Florida, and the State of Florida Election Laws.

Florida Medical Center Presents Jazz Picnic in the Park in Lauderhill at the Ilene Lieberman Botanical Gardens
Through a generous sponsorship from Florida Medical Center to cover the cost of the event, Mayor Richard Kaplan has arranged for a new Jazz Concert Series to be held at the Ilene Lieberman Botanical Gardens on Inverrary Blvd. (next to the Inverrary Hotel). The Series, to be called Jazz Picnic in the Park, will be on the second Sunday of November, January and March from 10 am to 2 pm.

The City of Lauderhill announces an Open Enrollment to establish an Eligibility List for financial assistance for the Repair/Rehabilitation program, which is open to City of Lauderhill homeowners only. Homeowners may sign up to be placed on the Minor Home Repair/Rehabilitation Program Eligibility List.

Notice of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Disaster Funds for the City of Lauderhill
The City of Lauderhill is pleased to announce the availability of $1,353,774 of Community Development Block Grant Supplemental Disaster Recovery Initiative funds, which have been allocated to the City, from the Florida Department of Community Affairs. These funds are available only to homeowners of red-tagged, homesteaded properties.

Applications may be picked up at the City of Lauderhill Commission Chambers, located at 3800 Inverrary Boulevard, Suite 111, Lauderhill, Florida 33319, on Monday, September 8, 2008, between the hours of 8:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. THIS IS THE ONLY DAY APPLICATIONS ARE AVAILABLE FOR PICK-UP!

Oral Rabies Vaccine to Be Distributed Throughout Broward County Mar. 11
As part of Broward County’s Oral Rabies Vaccine program (ORV), representatives from the Broward County Animal Care and Regulation Division and Parks and Recreation Division will begin to distribute baits filled with an oral rabies vaccine on March 11, 2008, weather permitting. The goal of the program is to reduce the incidence of rabies among raccoons and reduce the threat of rabies to pets, humans, and other wildlife.

Broward Beautiful Community Grant Application
Broward Beautiful is pleased to announce the 2008 Community Grants Program. Grants, from a minimum of $1,500 to a maximum of $7,500, are available to Homeowner groups & Civic Associations, and other Not-for-profit organizations within Broward County for landscape improvement projects on public property and other common areas visible to the general public.

Road Closures in the City of Lauderhill
Due to construction there will be Road Closures in the City of Lauderhill on NW 56 Avenue and NW 55 Avenue - between Sunrise Boulevard and Oakland Park Boulevard.  Beginning Friday, 10/5/07 at 4:00 pm and until further notice, the City of Lauderhill will CLOSE NW 56th Avenue between Sunrise Boulevard and Oakland Park Boulevard to all traffic except for local residents.  There will be absolutely NO access to Oakland Park Boulevard from NW 56 Avenue. Local traffic can utilize NW 55th Avenue to access Oakland Park Boulevard.  We apologize for the inconvenience. The Broward County Property Appraiser’s Office is renewing its commitment to Lauderhill for 2008.  We are going to have BCPA staff in Lauderhill the 3rd Friday of every month from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM at the City Hall, Suite 107.
